OPEN HOUSE & BOOK SIGNING
AT THE LAKE WINNIPESAUKEE HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM

(September 6, 2005 – Weirs, NH). Visit the Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society Museum in the Weirs on Saturday, September 24th from 10 am to 2 pm for an Open House featuring special activities and the opportunity to win free gifts.

Two local authors will be on hand to sign their books, both available for sale at the LWHS Museum Store. Whether you’re interested in fishing on the Big Lake or probing a murder mystery in a grand resort hotel, these books are a “must have” to fill the libraries of local history buffs.

Hal Lyon, a master angler, will be at the Museum from 11 am to 12 noon to sign his book “Angling in the Smile of the Great Spirit – Six Centuries of Wisdom from the Master Anglers of Lake Winnipesaukee.”

Mark Okrant, well known in the NH travel and tourism industry through the Institute for New Hampshire Studies, will be available from 12 noon to 2 pm to sign his recent book “A Last Resort,” a murder mystery set at one of New England’s most popular and celebrated resorts, The BALSAMS Grand Resort Hotel.

Museum visitors may enter to win free LWHS Museum Store gift bags filled with items of historical interest. Free admission tickets will be given away every hour to local history museums such as the Wright Museum of Wolfeboro and Canterbury Shaker Village, as well as statewide museums including the Children’s Museum of Portsmouth, The Fort at No. 4 Living History Museum (Charlestown, NH), The Millyard Museum (Manchester), the Museum of New Hampshire History (Concord), and Strawberry Banke (Portsmouth).

“The Open House is a great opportunity to visit with local authors and register to win free gifts from our museum and other museums across the state,” stated Ann Sprague, executive director. “Be sure to view our latest exhibits on the lake’s history and heritage.”

Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of Hart’s Turkey Farm Restaurant. Admission is free and the museum is handicapped accessible.
